–>This week; Saturday March 15 @ 5pm – Nubian Village Academy 2022 Sledd Street RVA

35 years after Nixon started the war on drugs, we have over one million non-violent drug offenders living behind bars.

The War on Drugs has become the longest and most costly war in American history, the question has become, how much more can the country endure? Inspired by the death of four family members from “legal drugs” Texas filmmaker Kevin Booth sets out to discover why the Drug War has become such a big failure. Three and a half years in the making, the film follows gang members, former DEA agents, CIA officers, narcotics officers, judges, politicians, prisoners and celebrities. Most notably the film befriends Freeway Ricky Ross; the man many accuse for starting the Crack epidemic, who after being arrested discovered that his cocaine source had been working for the CIA.

AMERICAN DRUG WAR shows how money, power and greed have corrupted not just drug pushers and dope fiends, but an entire government. More importantly, it shows what can be done about it. This is not some ‘pro-drug’ stoner film, but a collection of expert testimonials from the ground troops on the front lines of the drug war, the ones who are fighting it and the ones who are living it.

After 4 years of production including several sold out test screenings in New York, Austin & Los Angeles, the final version of American Drug War “the last white hope” is locked and loaded.

Register Your Business on the Black Business Directory

As the economic crisis looms we have to look at the model that the past has provided. Marcus Garvey during the early 1900 promoted buying black and supporting black business, during the segregation era the black business districts termed Black Wall Streets provided employment, commerce and economic fortitude for the black community.

People are unemployed in large amounts, and if we think that racial discrimination was a problem before, we must be ready to deal with it’s impact now as millions of people are without jobs today. Education and class factors also must be taken into consideration, i.e. no education no real job, and the need to start a business to make ends meet being pivotal for many in our community.

In order to be forward proactive Happily Natural has set up a black business directory on it’s website. Please register your business or a business that you know that is black owned so that we may support our own businesses and circulate the black dollar in our community. If it was ever important that we did this; now is the time to make it work.

Camp Diva will host its annual “Date with Dad Dance” Sunday, March 15, 2009, 5 p.m. at ArtWorks, located at 320 Hull Street, Richmond, Virginia, 23224.

This dance gives girls all over the Richmond Metro area an opportunity to dress up and participate in a fun night on the town with their dads. During the event, there’ll be music, food, and games all centered on cultivating healthy relationships between girls and their fathers. Last year’s games included ‘How Well Do You Know Your Daughter/Father Pop Quiz,’ ‘Who Can Tie Their Dad’s Tie The Fastest?’ and an ‘Old School/New School Dance Off.’ Our goal is for the girls and their fathers to leave smiling, with memories for a lifetime, as well as with a conversation that will continue beyond the event, strengthening their relationship.

The cost of the event is $20 per couple in advance and $10 for each additional daughter.

Tickets at the door will be $25 for a couple and $12 for each additional daughter.

Film Screening: 400 Years Without a Comb: Sat. @ Nubian Village Academy

A documentary/drama in African American history and tradition as told through various combs. Beauty is a big part of Africa and its people around the globe. The advent of slavery and the lack of combs and the ability to groom caused a social, individual, health, and spiritual death for the slaves giving rise to inferiority attitudes regarding hair, skin, nose and lips still present in African-Americans of today. In this film the emphasis is on the hairdressing of African-American women as a manifestation of this “inferior seed”. Based on a book of the same title by Willie L. Morrow, published in 1973. 60 min.

THE YEAR OF THE ANT AND THE DRAGON: BAOC & FTP UNITE!

by Brother.Manifest ~ March 5th, 2009

Print This Post Print This Post | THE YEAR OF THE ANT AND THE DRAGON: BAOC & FTP UNITE!

On February 15, 2009, The Black August Organizing Committee (BAOC) and The FTP Movement formed an official union as agreed upon by Shaka At-Thinnin, Chairman of BAOC and Kalonji Changa, Founder/National Coordinator of The FTP Movement.

Following a weekend of activities hosted by the Los Angeles branch of FTP, a meeting was held in order to strategize on ways that both organizations could better work together, consolidate efforts and resources to achieve maximum impact for the communities they serve.

“When you are serious about working with and for our people, it is only logical to seek out those of like minds”, said Kalonji Changa of FTP. “The BAOC has had a consistent, commitment of resistance for over 30 years. It is a proven track record that cannot be disputed. We bleed the same blood through the same veins; this is the year of The Ant and The Dragon”.

While this union is now official, it is by no means new. The FTP Movement and the BAOC have been working together on various initiatives and projects for over five years.

“It is not just the building of the Movement that we must be concerned with, but also the sustaining of the Movement. To do that, we must identify our allies, consolidate our forces and expand our programs and efforts across this country”, said Shaka At-Thinnin of Black August. “Our people are suffering and our communities are in need. It is imperative that we build up the consciousness and will of a committed group of people that then work diligently toward improving the conditions of our people.”

As one of our first acts of solidarity, FTP and BAOC are announcing the weekend of March 27-29, 2009 as National Feed the People Weekend. In conjunction with Guerrilla Republik and others, Feed the People events will take place in Oakland, CA, Atlanta, GA, Las Vegas, NV, San Diego, CA and Los Angeles, CA. We encourage people in every city across the nation to participate in this weekend, take to the streets and serve our people.

This year commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the Black August Organizing Committee. Weekend-long celebrations will be taking place in both Atlanta, GA (August 14-16) and Oakland, CA (August 21-23). Please join us as we celebrate 30 years of resistance and build toward the next phase of our people’s Movement. Go to myspace.com/dragonspeaks for additional details.

The Black August Organizing Committee and the FTP Movement have developed a series of guidelines and protocols for forming additional chapters or holding events under the BAOC or FTP banner. If you are interested in hosting a Black August or FTP event in your city or starting a local chapter, please contact BAOC or FTP National Headquarters at the contact numbers below.

For more information on either Feed the People Weekend or Black August Celebrations, please contact BAOC National Headquarters @ 1 -888 – 600- 1722 or FTP Movement National Headquarters @ (404) 419 – 6959.

During the 1960’s, Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (then known as H. Rap Brown) rose to popularity as one of “the most articulate and outspoken critics of the Jim Crow South”. Former Chairman of SNCC (Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee) and Minister of Justice for the Black Panther Party, Imam Jamil Al-Amin has become one of the many victims of the continuation of the FBI’s Cointelpro. On March 16th 2000, Imam Jamil was accused and framed in the murder of an Atlanta Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy and the wounding of another. Although no scientific or physical evidence linked Imam Jamil to the scene, he was sentenced to 135 years.

On August 1, 2007. Imam Jamil Al-Amin was transferred to the MAXIMUM SECURITY FEDERAL PRISON at FLORENCE, COLORADO known as the SUPER MAX. Recently Imam Jamil was moved to what is known in prison as “the hole”. He was strip searched and placed in a cell with no bed, no control over the lights and no shower. They have taken his Qur’an and all of his other personal property. This is Unacceptable. Come out and show your support for this Historical Human Rights Advocate.

Also, please take some time contact the warden, and to get the word out to all of your contacts. We all need to write, call, fax or email Ron Wiley Warden ADX to inquire as to why Jamil Al-Amin has been placed in the hole. No information has been given as to why this transfer was made, but nothing could justify this inhumane treatment.
